Digital Information Sign

The digital information sign comprises a comprehensive information sign and a regional information sign. The comprehensive information sign can be placed near the subway entrance and meeting places to provide users with a wealth of information, including accessible routes for wheelchair users, tourism information, and the location of nearby restaurants and amenities.

With the help of digital technology such as touch screens, data communication, and physical buttons, users with various needs can easily access the information they need. The regional information signs are installed on the side of the road, making them easily accessible to people on the move.

Wheelchair mode for wheelchair users

Pressing the wheelchair mode button causes the screen to lower to the bottom of the display, making it easily accessible for wheelchair users at eye level. Additionally, the feature provides information on accessible routes to elevators for those with mobility issues.

Magnifying mode for the elderly and people with low vision.

The magnifying mode allows the elderly and people with poor vision  to increase the text size.

We built a full-scale working prototype and testing environment to evaluate the effectiveness of the design. We recruited various user groups, comprising wheelchair users, the elderly, the visually impaired, and foreigners.

The outcomes of the usability test indicated that a majority of participants found the provided map and navigation suggestions to be clear and effective.

Notably, low-vision and elderly users were satisfied with the ‘Magnifier Mode,’ which features large text size and simplified information visualization. Another significant hardware improvement is the inclusion of a tactile component, which benefits blind users.
