Evacuation Device for People with Mobility Issues
During fire emergencies in high-rise buildings, evacuating via stairs poses significant challenges for wheelchair users, elevating their vulnerability. In response, an evacuation device has been developed to mitigate these challenges. This device featurs a retractable safety belt designed for swift and straightforward use. Upon usage, the belt automatically retracts to its original position. Moreover, its adaptable neck support caters to individuals of varying heights. Additionally, equipped with handles on both sides, the device enhances users’ sense of security while navigating the stairs during evacuation.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and was published in Archives of Design Research, a Scopus indexed journal. It even appeared on the cover of the journal.
